Moving House with Kids

Moving is stressful as it is, but when you have kids it can become even more difficult without the services of professional movers. With young children running around at your feet the whole process can be overwhelming, as you need to keep on top of the move while also making sure your children are safe. With these tips below, moving house with kids should be much easier.

Before you move

Long before moving day it's a good idea to start talking about the concept of moving with your kids. If they're very young they may not understand what it means exactly, so it is a good idea to explain to them that they'll be getting a new home. Using positive language will help them become more comfortable with the idea of moving and will help them to understand that moving is a good thing. Make informed choices about the home that you will move to. Is it in a good area, is it insulated, does it have one of the best hot water systems or is there room for your cars.

If you can, it can also be helpful to take your kids to visit the new house. This will help them to become familiar with their new surrounds and have a better understanding of where they are moving to. You can also show them the local park and their new primary school so that they are more familiar with these areas when you move there.

During the move

If you want to avoid as much stress as possible on moving day, it's a good idea if you can arrange a babysitter for your kids or have other friends or family look after them for the day. Moving home can be quite dangerous for children as there are heavy boxes being carted around, lots of people working in close proximity, and lots of sharp objects being used.

If you can't find someone to look after them for you then make sure you have a way to keep them entertained for the day. Find the room with the least number of boxes in it and set up your kids with a tablet, phone, or some books. Ensure they have plenty of water and food, and enough entertainment to keep them going for the entire day.

After the move

Once you arrive at your new home you'll need to try and set up your children's rooms as soon as possible. If you can, try and make sure it looks similar to how their old rooms look as this will help them to feel more at home. Playing their favourite music for them can also help with this as it will remind them of their old room. Call in cleaning experts like Melbourne carpet cleaners to bring the property up to first class condition. You will most likely be too tired.

You may also need to be patient with your children as they adjust to their new environment. It might take a bit longer for them to settle down at bedtime, so consider buying them a house warming present or a new book to read to them. Make sure to set up play dates with their old friends as well if they are nearby, as this will help to remind them that their lives haven't completely changed.

Getting a professional mover to help

Hiring a moving company to help you move on the day will definitely make your life much easier, especially when you have kids. They can pack and unpack for you, provide all the packing materials, and even transport your pets and vehicles. This means you can sit back and relax during the move while they do the heavy lifting for you.

Moving house with kids doesn't have to be difficult if you have professional health. Although it may cost more, the benefits will definitely out weight the price. You can get a wide range of services in one place with professional movers, making your move much simpler and easier to organise.
